Body Board
A body board is a short yet wide foam board that can be ridden in most waves with much less skill than surfing. The rider does not have to worry about standing up, it is nearly impossible due to the small amount of area on the board combined with their increased softness, and steers with both feet and board. Many body boarders wear diving fins to give them increased power and speed.
A body board is much easier to ride than a surfboard but does not get the rider out of the water and they cannot achieve the same high speeds a surfer would. This can pose a danger on popular and crowded breaks. Body boarders are on the bottom of the surfers social totem pole, so be sure to know how to duck dive and call a wave when attempting this.
A body board can be found anywhere surfing supplies are sold and make a fun and entertaining way of teaching young surfers how to catch a wave, though they are fun for people of all ages and abilities. They are lightweight and cheap making them very common at beaches around the world. There are even world championships as well as bunch of exiting tricks.
